Boy engaged in coloring Aarhus Cathedral

About Us

We’re a family based in Aarhus, Denmark, and we created this site to help you navigate the country we love. Drawing on our years of experience traveling as parents, we hope our tips make your trip easier and more enjoyable. Thanks for visiting Denmark with Kids—we wish you an unforgettable Danish adventure!

Why We Made A Coloring Book

When our two little nieces in the U.S. were coming to visit Denmark for the first time, we realized there was a perfect way to welcome them—through crayons and imagination. That’s how our “Denmark Coloring Book for Kids” was born. The idea was 2-fold: to occupy them during their flight so their parents could get some peace and quiet, and to teach them a little about Denmark and channel excitement for their trip.

You’ll notice we created coloring book style illustrations for every page on our site because we think it’s the most fun and is uniquely our theme.

Why Coloring?

Coloring isn’t just a way to pass the time. According to early childhood educators, it builds fine motor skills, sparks creativity, and can be surprisingly relaxing—even for the busiest of minds. On a long transatlantic flight, a coloring book that invites a child to learn about where they are going is a great entry point into a new culture for kids. We wanted our nieces to learn a little about their host country before setting foot in it, and to arrive already brimming with questions and excitement.

We’re not a huge publishing house—just a family who wants to welcome the next generation of travelers to Denmark. If you choose to buy our coloring book, know that you’re supporting a small, Denmark-based family—and that every purchase helps us dream up new pages and new adventures.

What Our Son Thinks of It

Of course, we couldn’t test-drive the book without our own little guy—our very own chief quality controller. At age five, he’s the perfect audience: he adores anything with wheels (especially Danish cargo bikes), gobbles up factoids, and has opinions about whether a mermaid’s hair should be blue or green.

Here’s what he had to say:

“I like the Moesgaard Museum page best!” He has many memories sleding down the snow packed ramp at Moesgaard Museum during the winter.

That’s actually a fun fact we included in the book – parents and children can sled down the ramp when it snows; it’s such a unique thing to do and is quintessential Aarhus. One of the many reasons why we love our city.

Our son’s feedback reminded us how important it is to keep things playful. Every page went through a few rounds of revision because we wanted our kid’s stamp of approval first.

Beyond the Flight: A Keepsake of Memories

Once the plane lands and the coloring pencils are put away, our hope is that this book becomes something more: a keepsake filled with your child’s first impressions of Denmark. We invite you to frame a page to remember your time here.

Above all, we made this book for families—especially fellow parents who understand the magic of travel, the chaos of packing, and the joy in discovering a new place through a child’s eyes.

Happy coloring, and velkommen til Danmark!
