Should You Bring a Stroller to Denmark?

This is the #1 question I get from friends visiting Denmark with toddlers: “Should I bring a stroller?” Short answer? Yes. But the type of stroller matters – a lot!

Family walking with stroller

We live in Aarhus, so we already own a large and substantial stroller but needed something that could pack down small. We brought a lightweight travel stroller for a trip to the states when our son was 2. It was a lifesaver — not just for naps and tired legs, but for our sanity. We also use it in when traveling within Denmark because it’s so easy to toss in a bag and go. If you’re planning a family trip to Denmark with kids, chances are you’ll need a stroller.

🏙️ Pros of Bringing a Stroller to Denmark

Walkable cities: Copenhagen, Aarhus, and Odense are stroller-friendly with wide sidewalks.
Public transport is accommodating: Buses, trains, and metro cars have dedicated stroller areas.
Great for naps on the go: We avoided the return-to-hotel struggle multiple times thanks to stroller naps.
Useful in museums and airports: Especially places like Experimentarium and Copenhagen Airport.

⚠️ Considerations Before You Pack One

Cobblestones: In older areas like Rosenborg Castle or Nyhavn, small wheels can be bumpy. Choose something with solid suspension.
Tight cafes and restaurants: Not all places have room to park a stroller inside. This is why it’s great to have one that folds down in minutes so you can put it in a bag and carry it on your shoulder.
Stairs in metro stations: Most have elevators, but not all and they might be out of the way.

What Works for Us

We bought a GB Pockit+ travel stroller, and I can attest that it handles Danish sidewalks like a champ. It folds small enough to carry onto the metro, and I could easily steer one-handed while eating a hot dog (don’t judge —it was amazing).

At 5, our son doesn’t use a stroller much anymore, only when he is extremely tired at an airport and we need to push him fast to catch a flight.  Back when he was smaller, it was the only way we could explore all day — museums, parks, and waterfront walks — without meltdowns.

The GB Pockit+ is such a nice stroller, I don’t think I can bring myself to sell it when he finally grows out of it. If anything, when our son is older, he can use it with his own kids and won’t have to buy one at inflation prices.

If you’re planning a family trip to Denmark and you’d like to rent our stroller, just send an email to [email protected] and we’ll go from there.  Rental is just 150 kr per day! Pickup in Aarhus.

👩‍👦 Bonus Tip

Use your stroller basket to carry quiet activities. Ours was always stocked with snacks and coloring books, which kept him busy while we waited for food or sat at a café.
