I recently visited Tivoli in Aarhus with my 5-year-old son and two of my friends and their daughters, ages 4 and 6, and it was an unforgettable day filled with laughter, excitement, and and a ton of cotton candy. If you’re planning a trip to Denmark with kids, Tivoli is a must-see attraction that offers fun for all ages.

There are 2 locations, one located in the heart of Copenhagen and nestled in a forest in Aarhus.  Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen is one of the world’s oldest amusement parks and offers a unique mix of classic charm and modern thrills.

At the one in Aarhus, we arrived just after it opened and bought our tickets at the gate, though you can also purchase them online to save time. As of 2025, entry in Aarhus costs 175 DKK for adults and children over 90 cm, while kids under 90 cm get in free. To enjoy the rides, you’ll need to buy an unlimited ride armband, which costs around 120 DKK for both children and  adults. You can also choose individual ride tickets, but with energetic young kids, the armband is well worth it.

One of the best things about Tivoli for families is the wide range of rides for different age groups. For the younger ones, like our group, there are plenty of gentle options such as the Brandalarm (Fire Alarm), Den Røde Baron (The Red Baron), and Dragen (Dragon). The kids were especially taken with bumper cars. For parents and older siblings, Tivoli also features more adrenaline-pumping attractions. It’s nice to visit a park that caters so well to toddlers, teens, and adults all in one place.

Food options in Tivoli are just as family-friendly. We enjoyed lunch at one of the casual eateries where kids could grab hot dogs and fries, and adults could try Danish classics like smørrebrød. There are also many places to get snacks, including churros, cotton candy, and ice cream. Prices are what you’d expect for a theme park — around 80–120 DKK for a meal — but the quality and atmosphere made it worthwhile.

What makes Tivoli really special for a family holiday in Denmark is the overall vibe: it’s clean, safe, beautifully landscaped, and full of music, lights, and entertainment. There are playgrounds, pantomime shows, and even live music events on Friday and Saturday evenings. We spent over six hours there and could have easily stayed longer as there are so many areas to take a break and re-group throughout the day.

If you’re searching for things to do in Denmark with children, Tivoli should definitely be at the top of your list.
